Surabhi, a distinguished Political Analyst and Research Fellow, embarked on a life-changing journey when she decided to adopt a four-legged companion. After completing her Masters in Public Policy from Harvard Kennedy School and returning to Bangalore, Surabhi felt the time was right to welcome a furry friend into her life. Little did she know that this decision would lead to an unbreakable bond with a special dog named Malai, now known as Kivi.

Malai was rescued by Imran of the incredible Tug and Shred crew. He was the victim of a road accident. A car had run over his leg and left him with a fracture. Imran took in Malai and nursed him back to health. He then found a lovely foster home for Malai till he could go to his forever-home. Malai waited several months to find his human and happily ever after. When Surabhi read Malai’s profile on our website, she fell hard for him! After connecting with Imran, both Surabhi and Imran were confident that Malai would be the perfect fit for her. And so, Malai began his journey to his forever home with Surabhi.
From the moment Malai was dropped off, it was clear that a profound connection had been formed. Malai, now Kivi, instantly followed Surabhi around with unwavering loyalty and affection. Their instant bond was heartwarming and reassuring, solidifying their relationship from the very first second they met.
In true Indian tradition, Kivi received a warm welcome into Surabhi’s home. Surabhi’s mother performed an aarti, symbolizing the auspiciousness of Kivi’s arrival in their life and home.
Adopting a pet comes with its share of responsibilities and adjustments. Surabhi ensured that she didn’t travel anywhere for the first 2 weeks and took the time to learn about Kivi’s needs, gradually adapting her routine to provide him with the care he required. Patience and understanding played a significant role during the initial week as Surabhi got the hang of everything related to Kivi’s well-being and happiness.
Kivi seamlessly fit into her life from accompanying her on travel for work as well as her holidays and vacations. Kivi is now a seasoned traveler and has traveled very often by the Indian railways. Surabhi is now spearheading a citizen-led initiative to restore the Jayanagara Shopping complex. Kivi is a regular face at their meetings and brainstorming-sessions!
Surabhi’s decision to adopt Kivi not only changed her life but the trajectory of Kivi’s life too. Surabhi says adopting Kivi has made her life more wholesome. We are absolutely certain, that Kivi feels the same.
