About the Founder
My dog, Mili, from the very get-go, was gentle, quiet, independent and intelligent. She had the softest coat of fur, a bushy tail and brown eyes that could make-your-heart melt . Many people would stare in disbelief when I would tell them that she is a rescued street dog. Neighbours were most surprised when they realised that she barely barked, to the extent that we’ve been asked if she even knew how to bark! She became quite the hit with the kids in the area and also with our extended family, who were quite dog-averse. Mili, now 7 years old, still continues to win hearts with her quiet and gentle love.
Learning people’s perceptions and opinions of street dogs made me question my own. Growing up, I always accepted that there were street dogs and then there were dogs that were ‘pets’. I never really questioned why the street dogs were on the streets to begin with. I didn’t see anything wrong with it either. Knowing Mili made me realise, that had she not been rescued, her life on the streets would have been so harsh! I would never want my Mili on the streets, so why then was I okay with the idea of any dog being on the street?
If we truly loved dogs or any animal for that matter, and were genuinely invested in bringing home a pet, why then, did its breed matter? Whether it’s a pedigree or a mongrel, a dog will love and accept you just the same. It is our perception that needs to change. And with that realisation, I decided to do something about it!
I decided to leverage my 7 years of marketing experience in the corporate world to be one of the many people trying to end the problem of homeless dogs in India.
I launched ‘Be A Petizen’ to make it easier for Petizens like you who would like to consider ‘adopting’ their pet. This way, you are part of the solution and automatically become an ambassador in your social circles for choosing the more responsible and ethical way of bringing home a pet.
I’m honoured to give you the opportunity to experience the unparalleled love and joy of having a dog. I wish you luck on your journey to find your furry companion through Be A Petizen.
