Some companions leave paw-prints on our hearts that never fade away. For Beryl and her Jonah, the memory of their beloved pug, Tanya, whom they found on the streets and cherished for three wonderful years, was one of those enduring imprints. When they faced the heart-wrenching loss of their cherished canine friend, they knew they wanted to give another dog a loving home.
Beryl and Jonah had a special place in their hearts for pugs. After the loss of their furry friend, they felt a void in their home and hearts that only a pug could fill. They decided to search for another pug companion, and that’s when they stumbled upon Ollie’s profile on our website.
At Be A Petizen, the profiles of the rescued dogs for adoption, are always detailed, transparent and aim to ensure you make an informed choice from the get-go. Abandoned by her owners, Ollie’s photos in the profile showed a sweet, expressive face with big, soulful eyes. The profile mentioned that while Ollie is a friendly and loving dog, she is very reserved at first. She needs to be given time and space to allow her to come out of her shell and be a charming self! It was also mentioned that Ollie had previously been adopted and returned because she refused to pee & poop in the first few days which scared the adopters. Our partner shelter, CUPA Second Chance Adoption Centre was looking for an experienced family that would understand Ollie.
Beryl and Jonah liked everything they read and were immediately drawn to her. They filled the form on our website to express interest in Ollie and we connected them to the shelter where Ollie was located. The shelter contacted them and invited them over to meet Ollie.
When they went over to meet Ollie, as expected, Ollie was reserved and shy. She appeared to be a bit hesitant around them but was incredibly friendly and social with the shelter staff. This gave Beryl and Jonah a chance to see what Ollie could be like if given a chance to open up.
Given Ollie’s initial hesitance, the shelter manager, Jehosh Gershom, recommended that Beryl and Jonah foster Ollie for a few days to see if they were a good match before making a commitment to adopt her. They agreed and took Ollie home, excited but fully aware of the responsibility that came with caring for a dog.
Ollie’s transition into her new home wasn’t without challenges. She was visibly excited but also nervous. She wouldn’t eat her meals as eagerly as she should, and the unfamiliar surroundings seemed to make her a bit jittery. Beryl and Jonah worried about how Ollie was adjusting to her new life. Jehosh reassured them that it was normal behaviour for Ollie. He advised them to give Ollie space and time to acclimate.
Slowly but surely, Ollie began to settle into her new home. Today, she not only eats her meals with gusto but also demands treats by staring Beryl into submission!
What’s truly remarkable about Ollie is her undeniable zest for life. Contrary to common misconceptions about senior dogs, Ollie is a ball of energy. She’s playful, affectionate, and always ready for her walk and an adventure. Beryl and Jonah couldn’t be happier with their decision to bring Ollie into their lives.
Ollie’s story serves as a heartwarming reminder that senior dogs are often overlooked when it comes to adoption. People tend to gravitate toward puppies or younger dogs for adoption, assuming that seniors might be less active, have trouble bonding or have health issues. However, Ollie’s adoption story challenges these stereotypes.
Senior dogs, like Ollie, have so much love to give. They can bond as easily as puppies and be trained too just as easily! They bring a sense of joy, calmness, and gratitude into your life that is truly special. If you are committed to making it work, we guarantee that adopting a senior dog will be the best decision of your life. We have many senior dogs for adoption that are currently under the care of our partner animal shelters and rescuers across Bangalore.
